Tilly Needs Help and a Home
Tilly was successfully rehomed in February 2009, below is her story
Tilly's Troubles and Diary
It's difficult to understand the mentality of people who breed from a bitch then discard her by selling her to an unknown person who has bought the bitch on an impluse as a Christmas present for her daughter with no knowledge of the breed!
The first can be called callous and mercenary and the other foolish and irresponsible. The consequence is yet another dog surrendered to a pound for rehoming, scared, confused, distressed and unwanted, deserving none of this upset. Young Tilly is one of many dogs who tragically fits this description.
Hearing of Tilly's plight one of Dobie Welfare's benefactors kindly bailed her out of the pound and we are now asking for donations for the time she will be cared for in kennels, receiving the necessary vaccinations and health checks, and if a home is not immediately forthcoming, for her to be spayed.
So far this is what we know about Tilly. She is black and tan, medium sized, docked and thought to be between 4-6 years of age and has definitely had at least one litter of pups, the last relatively recently. Tilly has a delightful, friendly nature, greeting all new arrivals with wiggling bottom and wagging stump. Before being surrendered Tilly spent a fortnight living with a family who had children aged 4 to 8 years and was apparently good with them all. She is responsive to her name, craves human company and affection and is not detructive in the home.
Not an experienced car traveller, she cries to begin with but soon settles, then curls up and goes to sleep once the journey is underway. So far we have only introduced her to one male dobie outwith her kennel and she behaved in a relaxed and friendly manner with him. Over the next fortnight Tilly will be assessed and photographs taken. We believe this girl will make someone a lovely companion and pet, she is active, house trained and in good condition though we are told she chases cats.
Meantime anyone who can offer a home or sponsorship towards kennelling and necessary medical care should contact Pam Hall on (01346) 532227. We know times are tight, but any contribution, however small, to help prepare this lass for her new forever home and to ensure she will not be further exploited will be much appreciated.

Collected Tilly from Pound and drove to kennels 3 hours away, she travelled far better than expected. Fee to release her £77.07 kindly given by DWA benefactor.

Busy day for Tilly. Visit to vet for health check and innoculations. Possibly she came away feeling like a pin cushion, first innoculation, kennel cough, and micro-chipped. Ointment for ear mites and worm tablets for a girl hitting the scales at 32.1 kilos. Heart and lungs etc all sound fine.
Tilly's day improved, walk along old railway line with another dobie and then back along busy roadside pavement to assess response to traffic. Loud noises, or sudden movements made her unsure and walking to heel without being tripped up needs practise!
Back to carer's house, met male dobie and had great games in garden, look of sheer joy on Tilly's face as she raced around and around the garden. Quite ready for a kip in the house and settled in crate and was not bothered by other dog or people in household just went to sleep and looked happy to have company. Such an easy loving dog.

Another outing for Tilly. Travelling really well in the car now. Went for a long walk on lead with Arnold and Jenna (2 dobes) through woodland and farm land. All dogs getting on well and obvious Tilly has not had much experience on the lead and by the state of her nails not much exercise. Nails now clipped and she found walking on kitchen floor much easier today as quite scared on first visit. Still very apprehensive when coming into the house but enjoyed her day and a good brush. So desperate to please.
Encouraging - two genuine enquiries for Tilly and support with veterinary fees from kind Mrs D in Lancs.
Further financial support from a Ms E R for Tilly. Thank you.

Tilly had visitors at the kennels. Couple who would like to offer her a home subject to her getting on with their castrated male dobie, some horses and 3 cats.

Tilly's meeting with Titan a castrated male dobie went well after a couple of spats as she was rather overwhelmed by his enthusiastic greeting. Unfortunately a bit more time in kennels as she cannot move in until 6 February but great new home awaits. Hopefully Tilly will realise how important it is not to chase their cats! These are introductions waiting for another day. Tilly has now become a seasoned car traveller and enjoys her outings.

Check-up with vet for Tilly. Good news ear problem cleared up. Tilly loving her car trips and totally relaxed whilst travelling. Enjoyed a couple of walks loose in enclosed field and recall good. At ease with our male dobie.
4 February 2009
Second innoculation due and duly given. Tilly enjoyed a day out with walks along the old railway line and sploshing in every puddle she could find and then with Arnold around local stubble fields checking out mole hills, pheasant and rabbit smells.
7 February 2009
Tilly being collected by her new owners and will be going to live on a small holding in Aberdeenshire.
16 February
Update from Tilly who is curled up cheek to cheek with Tan now her best buddie infront of a lovely open fire. Her energy is astounding and her saggy figure is becoming neat and trim. Tilly will now tolerate being in the same room as the cats, so hopefully she will continue to make progress in this direction and not blot her copy book. From going to pillar to post and being used as a commodity it would be tragic if she didn't settle down and accept her feline house companions. Tilly will be spayed by her new owner's vet in due course.
