Long Term Dogs
Our Long Term dogs are dobes who are more difficult to re-home because they have special needs and require a specific owner/home environment.
Many of the dogs that come to DWA are difficult to re-home having past histories of neglect, abuse, or have received no training or socialisation with other dogs and people. Whilst we endeavour to find the right home for these dobies because of their special requirements they can spend a long time in kennels.
Generally the long term dogs are not appropriate for first-time Dobermann owners. They may need to be the only dog or pet in the household, and may not be compatible with a family environment.
Such requirements put additional restrictions on finding suitable homes, meaning the ongoing costs for looking after these dogs in kennels whilst rehabilitating them puts a considerable drain on our finances.
The Long-Term Dogs Sponsorship Scheme raises funds which contribute towards their kennelling and veterinary costs.
Bailey
This 4 year old brown and tan male has a sweet nature and loves children. Bailey spent the first 3 years of his life confined to a kennel in a 6ft length enclosure which has resulted in him developing stereotypical behaviour problems of pacing backwards and forwards. He was originally handed into an all breed rescue, in an emaciated state, with an eye infection and a poor coat. He was homed by them to a loving environment which unfortunately was not suitable for Bailey's specific needs.
After a DWA assessment Bailey's owners reluctantly agreed that it would be in his best interests to come into our care. We are now working with Bailey to help him overcome his behavioural problems. We envisage he will be with us for some time before being ready to rehome. DWA will then look out for that special home where his training will be carried on ensuring he does not relapse into his old behaviour.
Darcy
Darcy is a 6 year old Brown and Tan spayed bitch with docked tail. She is good looking, lively and very strong on the lead, but obedient. Darcy will walk with other dogs but will not share anything with them. She loves her food and can be a bit of a thief.
Darcy will chase anything that moves including cats, birds, squirrels and even joggers. Darcy needs a home where she will be an only dog, ideally with an active family who will continue with her training and give her lovely long walks. Alas she has been in kennels for over two years but we are still hopeful that the right owner will come along and give her the home she deserves. For more information please call Sue James Telephone: (01685) 844362 or Mobile: 07789 071738.
Tara
This confident girl is still seeking her forever home. Nothing bothers this dynamic character, however, since July she needs your support to help reduce the strain on DWA finances and to allow us to continue helping other needy dobies so as from 28 October 2009 Tara has become a Long Termer. When sponsoring Tara, please fill in the form Tara, Scotland. Thank you. Needless to say we are still hopefull that someone will come along to offer Tara her perfect home.
Sponsors will receive a Certificate of Sponsorship together with information and a photograph of their chosen dog. This is a popular gift - ideal as a present for someone special.

Sadly No Longer With Us - Bonnie
Many thanks to our kind sponsors who contributed so generously to the upkeep of Bonnie.
The late Bonnie was a 4½ year old Blue unspayed bitch with docked tail. She didn't get on with other dogs very well, and could be quite nervous. However, she would walk with other dogs (as long as they left her alone!) but Bonnie would never have been able to tolerate living with another dog. Bonnie was very sweet natured dog and loved the company of people.
