Dogs in the care of other rescue centres or private individuals
Max - Click On Pictures For Larger Versions
A four year old, black and tan male with a docked tail, Max requires a home where they are experienced with male Dobermanns.
Max is good with other dogs and has lived with a male Springer Spaniel. He also lives with a cat. He travels well in the car.
This dog has a very nice nature, but is not to be rehomed with children. Max is currently living in the County Durham area. For further details please call Max's owner, Sue on 07773 264033.
Diesel
Update: 27 January 2010 Alas poor Diesel never found that loving home. He became ill and passed away at the vets.
Black and tan neutered 4 year old male. Micro-chipped and fully vaccinated. Friendly and affectionate with people and was living with a family until surrendered to the Dog's Trust because he was spending long lonely days on his own.
Diesel needs an owner with previous experience of the breed as he has not been properly socialized and is aggressive towards other dogs and will need to be exercised on the lead. Currently having lead training. Needs a home with a large secure garden as the only dog. Being a bouncy playful lad he would be best with children over 11 years of age. Diesel was in the care of the Dogs Trust, West Calder.
Rollo (Alias Charlie Brown)
Rollo has been rehomed by the RSPCA. Approximately 4 years plus old, this brown and tan, entire, medium sized neat male dobe is very friendly but currently underweight with a dry coat condition. He urgently needs his forever home.
Found wandering the streets of Leyland and unclaimed from the local dog Pound he is now in the care of RSPCA staff in Preston where he is spoken of affectionately and enthusiastically because of his lovely nature.
Obviously lonely and bewildered as so many dogs in kennels are he appeared calm in the kennel when recently visited by a DWA representative to take photos. Nevertheless he craves stability and affection and enjoyed a romp in the exercise area returning for a cuddle and reassurance to his visitors and took offered tit-bits very gently. When walked on the lead by Judith Balshaw on her visit to the Pound he was unconcerned by traffic and passing horses.
Obviously one of life's unwanteds and judging from his general condition it appears he may have been in the wars. Applicants will be home checked and should have a secure garden with someone at home for the majority of the day, and the time to give to this lad's general rehabilitation and care.
Rollo should not be homed with another male dog. There is no apparent reason why Rollo will not make a loving pet but he will not be placed with a family with young children as his background is unknown (as is sadly his original name).
Rollo is now with the RSPCA at Ribbleton where he is being assessed and receiving the necessary veterinary treatment. We recommend that interested parties please call the RSPCA, Slack Cottage, Ribbleton, Preston, Lancashire on (01772) 792553, e-mail rspcapreston@blueyonder.co.uk
The kennels are open every day except TUESDAY from 11.00 a.m. - 4.00 p.m. or alternatively speak to Judith Balshaw (Dobermann Rescue) on (01617) 635423 who visited Charlie whilst he was in the South Ribbleton Council Pound.
Sadly there are more dogs coming in all the time and the DWA's team of volunteers is stretched to keep up with enquiries. With the economic gloom set to continue for some time it is envisaged that the situation can only worsen for all animals. Poor finances obviously bring about more pressure on families which means more broken relationships, taking on more work as available and less time and money for their dogs. To try and help place some of the dobermanns who need rehoming this page is featuring dogs whose owners can no longer keep them for one reason or another.
Please Note: any dogs featured on this page have not been seen by one of our representatives and unless you have knowledge of this breed, or large active 'high maintenance' dogs and have the experience and energy to dedicate to these needy dogs and the training they will undoubtably require do not become involved. A well trained and socialised dobermann is a pleasure to own and wonderful company and HOW a dobe needs company!
Likewise we implore people not to advertise their dog 'Free to Good Home' as this invariably means they can end up in the wrong environment, from being with a puppy farmer, bait for a dog fighting ring, some form of experimentation, or shut in a yard. The most plausible of people can approach you on behalf of these 'low lifes'. Only let your dog go to a home which has been home checked by someone who is experience with dobermanns and please do not be tempted to off load your problems on to someone else. Please think carefully before buying, selling and breeding any dog. Less and less people with the current financial situation and their personal commitments have the time to give to training a dog and its general socialisation.
