Information About The Dobermann Breed
Louis Dobermann
The Dobermann Pinscher was named after its creator, Louis Dobermann. A tax collector and dog fancier of Thueringen, Germany Mr Dobermann's ambition was to breed the perfect working dog - loyal fit and intelligent.
How Did He Do It?
No one can be sure what breeds Louis Dobermann used in his endeavour - but it is thought that the German Pinscher, Rottweiler, Manchester Terrier and Greyhound are amongst others in the ancestry of the breed. By 1900 the breed was recognized by the German Kennel Club and shortly after the breed began to appear in the UK and USA.
The Breed Today
Please see our Breed Profile page.
Dobermans are energetic, watchful, determined, alert, fearless, affectionate, obedient and loyal. Dobermanns are best suited to being in a home with plenty of room and need moderate exercise. With their natural intelligence they are easily trained and, contrary to popular belief, good with children. Dobermanns quickly bond with the whole family.
You can find a detailed description of the Doberman breed on the Kennel Club Website together with much more information.
